Making the Avatar was pretty fun, I used Yahoo and will soon explore other free avatar makers. Exporting it was not as much fun. I find that the avatar doesn't always show up and I'm not sure why. Three cheers and much self-congratulating occured when it first appeared. Hope it stays put.
Love the Common Craft videos from YouTube -- brilliant folks. Have used them often in presentations about using technology. Parents especially seem to appreciate them.
The aticles by the Davids (Armano) on the 4Cs of blogging and (Warlick) 2 Cents Worth on Edublogging confirmed what we have been working on with students and teachers -- that clear communication is of paramount importance always and even more so in our digital age. It's the whole "perception" thing.

I just signed up to follow your site. I'm a middle school librarian and tech coordinator. I'm not familiar with the Common Craft videos--I'll have to look at those. Since YouTube is blocked from our school, I've been using some of the other video sources (such as TeacherTube).
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your start on 23 Things! We found a fix for the Yahoo Avatars this morning. We think there's something wrong with the html code. So here's what to do to get around that:
ReplyDelete1. Go to your avatar on the Yahoo page. Click export like before.
2. Right click on the avatar and choose "save as" or the like.
3. Save the picture to your desktop with a name you will remember (as a picture -- .jpeg)
4. Go back to your blog and choose "customize".
5. Click on your avatar gadget (it's an html gadget) and click "remove" when it asks if you are sure, say "yes". You are sure.
6. Click “add gadget” and choose the picture gadget. Make sure “from your computer” is selected and click “browse”.
7. Find where you saved your avatar, select it, and click “open”.
8. Click “save”.
9. Click “save” again, just in case.
10. Click view blog. Your avatar should show up.
If you are still having trouble, let me know!
